Safer Streets
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own neighbourhood.
That's why Siobhain McDonagh MP has campaigned for years for more Bobbies on the Beat in Mitcham and Morden, working alongside Merton Council and the Metropolitan Police to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.
Visible neighbourhood policing plays an important role in keeping communities safe, reassuring residents and supporting local businesses.
Making our streets safer
Siobhain has welcomed progress being made by Merton Council to improve community safety across the borough.
Following a successful pilot scheme, the Council has recruited additional Safer Streets officers to provide a more visible presence in local neighbourhoods, helping to tackle antisocial behaviour and support residents and businesses.
There have also been efforts to increase visible policing in town centres, alongside the expansion of CCTV coverage across Mitcham, Morden and Wimbledon.
These measures form part of the Council's wider work to make Merton's streets safer, supported by Siobhain's longstanding campaign for stronger neighbourhood policing.
Working with local police
Merton's 20 Safer Neighbourhood Teams work closely with residents to identify and tackle the issues affecting their communities.
Through Safer Merton, the Council, Metropolitan Police and other local organisations work together to address crime and antisocial behaviour.
Siobhain has also worked closely with senior Metropolitan Police officers on e-bike battery safety, bringing together police, firefighters, Government Ministers, insurers and delivery companies to discuss measures to prevent dangerous fires.
Reporting crime and antisocial behaviour
Residents have an important role to play in helping the police identify problems and keep neighbourhoods safe.
Anyone witnessing a crime or experiencing antisocial behaviour is encouraged to report it.
Call 999 in an emergency or 101 for non-emergencies.
Residents can also contact their local Safer Neighbourhood Team through the Metropolitan Police website to raise concerns about issues affecting their area.
Siobhain will continue working alongside Merton Council and local police to improve neighbourhood safety across Mitcham and Morden.
