Your Member of Parliament
Members of Parliament are elected to represent a constituency of about 70,000 electors. There are 659 MPs in total in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Siobhain McDonagh is the Labour MP for Mitcham and Morden, an area on the outskirts of south London. This website is for the use of Siobhain’s constituents. It allows her to consult with them and for them to raise issues with Siobhain in an electronic format. This site is in addition to the other ways Siobhain keeps in touch with the views of her constituents – letters and surveys, doorstep visits, phone calls, public meetings and coffee mornings, for example – but for many the internet is becoming increasingly easy. Why Register?
Constituents have to register to use the site – it’s the only way Siobhain can check that she is getting the views of her constituents – and then they can get access to all the surveys and questionnaires Siobhain uses to make sure she is listening to her constituents. Siobhain will post regular reports on the results of the surveys and what she intends to do as a result of those views. That way, as well as informing Siobhain, constituents can see for themselves the impact they are having on her. Importantly, there’ll be ways of passing on to Siobhain things that need fixing and sorting out in the neighbourhood – so Siobhain can get straight on the case and help to improve where we live. And there’ll be chances to come along to policy briefings, as well as to question and answer sessions with Siobhain and other Ministers, to find out first hand what your Member of Parliament is up to. This website is one part of the way that she is working hard to include their views and aspirations.
