It's my privilege and honour to be your representative in parliament. Mitcham and Morden is a wonderful constituency full of good, hard working, honest people and, like you, I have been really upset by some of the stories I’ve seen about MP's expenses.
That is why I want to make it clear I do not claim anything at all for my mortgage, property maintenance, furniture or food. I pay all these myself. The only personal expense I re-claim is for transport.
Under the “rules”, I could claim for a second home, but I won’t – I was born in Colliers Wood and have lived here all my life and I have never had or wanted a second home. I am lucky to live close enough to the House of Commons to get home each night.
If you would like to see my personal expenses please click here.
Also, if you would like to find out about the costs involved in running my office, including Parliamentary postage and stationery, please click here.
I am determined to be the best MP I can be, and that means staying in touch with people regularly about things going on in the community, like the future of St Helier Hospital. However, I only use Parliamentary postage and stationery for non-political purposes. When I contact people on a party political basis, this is always paid for by my local Labour Party.
While you are here, why not look through the rest of my website too. It’s been specially designed for residents of Mitcham and Morden and gives you the chance to let me know your views, and to find out what mine are – and, importantly, to see what I'm doing about the things that matter to you.
Click on the button on the right to find out more. You have to register, but that's only so I can make sure that I am listening to the right people – my constituents. It's all explained if you click on the button.
You can also click to check if you live in my constituency. If you live here too you can start using my site to tell me your views. Of course, if you're already registered, just log in and let me know what you think.
And remember, if I can be of any help to you on any issue, please do get in touch. I hold an advice surgery for my constituents every Friday from 2pm to 6.30pm, and if you would like a personal appointment simply ring 020 7219 4678.
Best Wishes,
