January 2004
Toured the House of Commons with Tamworth Manor School. Met with the Area Commander of Police at Wimbledon Police Station. Also met with Ms Belmor, the Headteacher of Mitcham Vale School and Stephen Twigg MP, the London Schools Minister. Held a meeting with Transport for London to discuss buses in Mitcham and Morden. Met with the owner of Ganley's Bar in Morden, the Minister of Morden Baptist Church, Gavin Murray, and held a forum with local businesses in Morden town centre. Held a Tea and Coffee morning at Morden Park Baptist Church, Lower Morden Lane.
December 2003
Attended Liberty School Christmas Concert. Met with the new Mitcham and Morden Police Inspector. Visited the industrial site on Hollowfield Way and the new Chief Executive of St Georges Hospital. Organised a meeting with the residents of Commonside East about the junction of Croydon Road and Windmill Road.
November 2003
Visited Thales, an aeronoautics company in Raynes Park and a big local employer. Site meeting with residents of Lewis Road, Mitcham, about the local environment. Met with the Director of Pollards Hill Housing Association and also met representatives from Merton Victim Support. Held a meeting with John Reid MP, Secretary of State for Health, about the future of St Helier Hospital, and the Chief Executive of Wandle Housing Association about the development of land on Miles Road. Visited the Renal Unit in St Helier Hospital. Met with representatives of Thames Water about the Colliers Wood flood. Held Tea and Coffee mornings in Colliers Wood and Lavender Fields.
October 2003
Visited the site of the burst water main in Colliers Wood. Met the GPs at Mitcham Medical Centre, Haslemere Avenue. Held meeting with Minister of Housing Keith Hill MP to discuss how to increase ways for people to buy their own homes. Organised public meeting with residents of Marion and Lilian Roads concerning the Mitcham Mint pub, Streatham Vale, and the residents of Longthornton Road concerning anti-social behaviour. Attended the induction of the new vicar at St Olaves Church, Church Walk, and the Annual Meeting of Carers Support Merton. Held Tea and Coffee mornings in Longthornton and Pollards Hill wards. Met with Home Secretary David Blunkett MP to discuss the problem of drugs and young people.
September 2003
Met with the Housing Corporation, the funders of Mitcham and Morden's Housing Associations. Also met with Trustees of Mitcham Garden Village and the Chair of the Merton and Sutton Primary Care Trust. Attended Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth.
August 2003
Met with the Dean of St Georges Medical School, visited Mitcham Job Centre and Merton Councils Housing Benefit Department. Carried out tours of the House of Commons with local residents. Visited Merton Drug Action Team. Launched the Save St Helier Hospital letter-writing campaign with other concerned local residents and Councillors.
July 2003
Held tea and coffee mornings at St Marks Church, Mitcham and Pollards Hill Community Centre. Opened the summer fete at Mitcham Parish Church. Met with Mertons Director of Social Services to discuss the care of the elderly and children at risk. Organised a meeting of residents of Whitfield Gardens, Langdale Avnue, Albert Road and police about anti-social behaviour. Attended Liberty School prize giving, the Kickstart motorbike project at Mitcham Vale High School and Pollards Hill Lunch Club. Met the Chief Executive at St Georges Hospital, and had an adjournment debate in the Commons on anti-social behaviour.
June 2003
Met with Directors of Netto to discuss the maintenance of its Mitcham Store car park. Tamworth Manor School students toured the House of Commons. Meeting with BT about maintenance of phone boxes and removal of graffiti. Visited Wimbledon Magistrates Court to address the issue of anti-social behaviour. Met with Merton Youth Awareness programme and Merton Young Carers Project. Introduced a Graffiti Bill in Parliament.
May 2003
Toured Wandle and Ravensbury recreation grounds with the Environment Agency. Met Londons Mayor, Ken Livingstone, to discuss extending the Tramlink through Mitcham. Site meeting at Butsworth Road, Mitcham, with planning officers. Attended launch of the Healthy Living Centre at South Mitcham, the 50th anniversary service at the Ascension Church, Pollards Hill. Met with Merton Councils Director of Education to discuss the Youth Service in Mitcham and Morden, and also met the Chief Executive of St Helier Hospital. Had meeting with Government Ministers about the success of local community wardens, and how to toughen up the law on abandoned cars.
April 2003
Tour of the House of Commons with Merton College students. Visited Links Primary School. Met representatives of the British Medical Association, South London Tamil Welfare Group, and the South London Irish Club. Arranged site meetings with residents, police and Council officers at Illingworth Close and Deer Park Gardens in Mitcham, and Briscoe Road in Colliers Wood, to assess problems with graffiti, fly-tipping and parking. Met with the Chief Executive of Springfield Hospital and attended the Police Commendation Awards Ceremony to acknowledge the bravery of police officers and local residents in fighting crime.

Public meeting with Chief Executive of St Helier Hospital for residents to put questions about future of St Helier and Wilson Hospitals. Meeting with health authority experts to discuss plans to reduce teenage pregnancies in Mitcham and Morden. House of Commons reception for Mertons Mayor, Cllr Edith Macauley and her charities. Met Chairman of Tooting and Mitcham Football Club to raise local concerns about parking and crowds ahead of any ground-share with AFC Wimbledon. Womens World Day of Prayer at St Martins Church, Morden. House of Commons tour for members of the drop-in club held at St Peter and St Pauls Catholic Church, Mitcham.

Meeting with architects concerning the redevelopment of the Brown and Root tower, Colliers Wood. Held talks with Unite, a company redeveloping the disused Nissan site in Colliers Wood High Street into shared housing for key workers.Visit to House of Commons by pupils from Liberty School, Mitcham. Met Cancer consultant at St Georges Hospital concerning cancer services. Annual General Meeting of trustees of Mitcham Garden Village. Took part in Pollards Hill Clean-up Day. Visited Beecholme Primary School, Mitcham.

Attended Bowel Cancer Awareness Loud Tie Campaign launch and met TVs Richard Whitney! Discussions with company planning to develop hotel in central Mitcham. House of Commons debate on future of St Helier Hospital. Met local government minister to discuss funding for Merton Council. Met Lord Falconer to discuss possible London Olympic bid. Meeting with Area Commander Stout (Merton Police) to discuss selection of St Helier and Cricket Green Wards as pilot areas for police reassurance campaign, aimed at combating antisocial behaviour. Met Merton councillors to discuss quality of street sweeping in Mitcham and Morden.

Met with Pollards Hill Housing Association and local residents. Held talks with local beat officer and residents of Oxtoby Way, Byards Croft and Chilmark Road SW16 to discuss policing methods. Met residents of Singleton Close, Colliers Wood to discuss ways of tackling antisocial behaviour.

Remembrance Sunday — laid wreath at Mitcham War Memorial with British legion. Meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss policing issues in London. Held talks with Thames Water and Merton Council concerning flooding problems in the Manor Road area of Mitcham. Attended 10th Anniversary Reception for Merton Chamber of Commerce. Discussions with staff and users of Chapel Orchard Day Centre. Hosted House of Commons Reception for Grenfell Housing Association. Question and Answer session with sixth form of Ursuline Convent High School.

Introduced Flytipping Bill in House of Commons. Meeting with Health Minister Jacqui Smith to discuss head injuries. Saw Mertons Director Education to discuss youth service in Pollards Hill. Held site meeting with residents living near Netto and Blockbusters in Mitcham to look at rubbish and abandoned car problem. Site meeting with residents in London Road, Figges Marsh concerning condition of recycling bins. Hosted tea and coffee morning for residents in Green Lane, Morden. House of Commons visit by senior citizens group from Lower Morden.

Present at launch of Childrens Council in Civic Centre, Morden. Saw officials from the Commission for Health Improvement concerning their inspection of St Georges Hospital. Discuss council spending with Mertons Director of Finance. Attended jobs fair at Mitcham Cricket Green organised by the Employment Service. Open day at Guardian Centre for the Blind in Colliers Wood. Attended leaving party for Brenda Stacey, who helped set up and run Friends in St Helier (FISH) a local charity for the elderly. Launched first meeting of Myrna Close Residents Association.

Held 2 childrens days for local families to visit the House of Commons in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Meeting with Merton Council officers to discuss street cleaning services and traffic problems in Mitcham. Interviewed by local film-makers about transport in Merton. Visited Dr Yacoubs surgery in Colliers Wood to discuss plans for new medical centre. Meeting with local police. Saw Chief Executive of local Primary Care Trust to discuss GP services in Mitcham and Morden, local care of diabetics and future uses of the Wilson Hospital. Talked to Merton Police chiefs about problems of antisocial behaviour. 2 weeks holiday!

Presented Wilson Hospital petition to House of Commons. Meeting with new Schools Minister David Miliband to discuss education in Merton. Open new Pollards Hill Housing Association homes. Visited pupils at Morden Farm and Cranmer Schools. Attend lunch of the Mothers Union. With other MPs, visited Capital Radio as Secretary of the All-Party Music Group. Held tea and coffee morning for residents in Lower Morden. Attended meeting of MPs to discuss Tax Credits. Opened second phase of new homes in Pollards Hill. Met members of the Mothers Union in Mitcham. Answered questions from Cranmer Primary School pupils. Gave out prizes at Liberty Primary School. Hosted tea and coffee morning for residents in Lower Morden. Discussed issues with GPs at Dr Yacobs surgery in Colliers Wood.

Meeting with planners from Merton Council to discuss future of brownfield sites like the disused factory sites in Rowan Road, Streatham Vale. Attended Mitcham Carnival. Meeting with House Builders Association. Visit to Diabetic Unit of St Helier Hospital. Meeting with Secretary of State for Health, Alan Milburn. Meeting at Rowan High School re Kickstart Scheme. Visited British Muslim Foundation. Met constituents lobbying Parliament for the Trade Justice Movement. Spoke to pupils from Malmesbury School about the work of an MP.

Meeting with Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, John Reid. Attended House of Lords breast cancer awareness event. Meeting with officials from new South West London Strategic Health Authority to discuss local health issues and the future of the Wilson Hospital. Meeting with Merton Council officers about Controlled Parking Zones. Attended meeting of MPs to discuss proposals for Lords Reform. Opened new doctors surgery in Wide Way, Mitcham. Met Health Authority to discuss future use of Wilson Hospital. Hosted parliamentary reception to honour staff at St Helier Hospital. Lobbied the Housing Corporation for more housing association homes in Mitcham and Morden. Met bus drivers at Merton Bus Garage. Attended conference on homelessness in Merton.
