Campaigns / Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
This weekend, the Platinum Jubilee will celebrate the
Queen’s 70th year on the throne and there are a large number of
celebrations taking place locally.
If you live near the Cricket Green in Mitcham, Councillor
Gill Manly has organised for a celebration on the Cricket Green between 14:00
and 17:00 on Friday 3rd June. There will be tea and cakes, sing
alongs, line dancing, and even a bouncy castle and face painting for the kids!
The event is completely free but the cakes will be sold to raise money for St
Raphael’s Hospice.
Separately, there are 94 street parties taking place across
Merton! You can find out the dates and partaking roads at this link where you will also find a map.
Meanwhile, Merton Council’s
Heritage Team have put together a range of resources including reminiscence
materials, archive films, craft activities, quizzes and more – do take a look
at their website where there is something for all ages. You can visit their
page here: Visit Merton’s Heritage website.
